I get a lot of questions from people about food and drink. Everyone wants to know what they can get away with and still get trim. Not surprisingly, a lot of folks need a vice to help them unwind from the grueling workday. Trust me when I say this. I UNDERSTAND. What is important to understand is that if you eat or drink anything in excess, you are probably going to sabotage your fitness plan. That being said, let's see what choices do the least damage.
Drinkers!
Don't over do it. If you must drink, limit it to a couple of glasses of wine or light beer.
If you like the hard stuff, you can have that too. You just can't have the mixer.
So if you like rum and Cokes, you are going to have to get used to rum and Diet Cokes.
Is this starting to make sense?
Mixed drinks are out, unless you can substitute the countless high carb mixers with low carb alternatives. Never fear, because there are some pretty good alternatives out there.
Unfortunately, if you like liqueurs there isn't much I can do for you. The sweet stuff has to go.
If you get hungry for snacks while drinking, you should consider almonds. Blue Diamond is probably the best. The quality of their almonds in any flavor is amazing. The net carb count on most of them is between 2g and 6g. That is pretty darn good for something so tasty that goes well with a tall frosty glass of light beer or your favorite liquor and diet combo. If the Blue Diamond is too pricey for you, try Emerald. They aren't as high quality of an almond, but they have a lot of good flavors.
Check the blog next week for a few of our favorite low carb drink mixes. Stay strong and keep moving.
