Strange Occurrence

Last week I saw the strangest thing I've seen in the gym in a long time.  There was a fairly tall, young man doing the closest thing to perfect squats that I've seen in a long time.  Then he completely dumbfounds me and does a box squat as low as mine ( I'm only 5'5").  Granted he didn't move heavy weight, but his technique was enough to make a former semi-pro (me) stop and notice.  This brings me to my point.  Technique is such a large part of lifting that no one can say enough on the topic.  Clearly, most folks in the gym don't have a clue.  Unfortunately, this includes most trainers.  The best way to get great technique is to learn the correct technique right off the bat.  There is nothing harder than trying to break old habits.  Trying to learn technique after you've programed your nervous system to do the movement a different way is extremely difficult.  That is why I urge people to find someone -- anyone that has a clue -- from whom to learn.  It will take years off of your learning curve and dramatically increase your strength in that particular lift.  To the young man with perfect form ... all I can say is keep up the good work.  Maybe one day everyone will put technique first because soon after technique the weight WILL FOLLOW.
