First Week of Training Results

I was fairly surprised to see this pop up and I felt honored that a soon to be 42 year-old supervisor for America's largest defense contractor could be considered one of the nation's top lifters.  This made all the pains I felt from the first week of my five week meet preparation routine seem less intense.

I haven't competed in years and the routine was kicking my (insert explicative here).  I forgot how much time and effort it took to prepare for a meet.  Fortunately, I have some frustrations to feed the fire from other parts of my life and I will enjoy seeing some of my old friends again.

This next week includes a day of lifts very close to max and on top of that it will be an extremely busy week at work, as well as on the home front.  Between the top priorities involving my son's entry into first grade, I will have countless other "to do s" to manage.

I am confident that all will go well, but the one thing that makes me uneasy is the sleep deprivation.  Existing on 2 -4 hrs sleep per day while on 11-13hr work days combined with a competition cycle equals frazzled nerves.  Both my family and the 30+ men and women for which I am responsible ultimately feel the results.  I hope they will forgive any weaknesses on my part.

So as I forge headlong into the coming weeks, I remind myself that I can only do my best.  I remember that pushing through the pain is what forces me to grow and that as long as I walk my talk, the people who know me will eventually acknowledge my efforts.
