So our first objective was to identify some potential products for our home gym. We only have a few practical choices that fall under $500.00. Please note that we are not trying to endorse any particular product and we do not profit off of our critique (look around ... we don't even have ads). We are simply looking for an alternative for readers that want or need to take care of fitness at home for whatever reasons.
So here are our top picks under $500.
TRX pro line - A workout system based on using your own body weight with straps that can be attached to pretty much anything. This seems to be a great idea for those of you who travel regularly due to the minimal space and portability.
The Stamina Bio-Flex 2200 is a complete resistance training system based on resistance bands. This unit is relatively light because it doesn't come with weight. It is a less expensive direct competitor with Bow Flex.
Gold's Gym XR45 is a weight machine like you would find in many gyms and apartments. It uses pulleys and has an adjustable weight stack. It is fairly easy to learn how to use (again it is like machines you find in your local gym).
We did a simple Google search to find these choices. We compared prices and chose the Gold’s Gym XR45. The reason was that we wanted to provide progressive resistance and make it easy enough for anyone to use. Please understand that I am not a fan of resistance machines. That is a whole article unto itself. If I have a choice between body weight exercises and nothing, I would choose body weight exercises. If I had a choice between resistance machines and body weight exercises, I would choose the machines. And it should be understood that free weights represent the biggest bang for time spent regardless of fitness goals. When it comes to sheer size, strength, and functional execution of sport movement nothing compares to free weight training.
To be continued ...
